Principal
Austin Richardson has enjoyed a varied career as an orchestral trombonist and educator. In addition to teaching at Baylor University for 2025-2026, Austin holds the Principal Trombone position with both the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. He joined the LPO as principal trombone in 2022, and subsequently joined the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra in 2024. Prior to his positions in Louisiana, Austin served as Principal Trombone with the Richardson Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Austin Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Winds, Mobile Symphony Orchestra, Meridian Symphony Orchestra, Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, Monroe Symphony Orchestra, Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, The Florida Orchestra, the Artosphere Festival Orchestra, and at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music. In addition to collegiate teaching at Baylor University and Loyola University, Austin has been a teaching artist for Kids' Orchestra, the LPO Academy, and a private low brass instructor. Austin received his Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music, his Master's degree from Louisiana State University, and is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of North Texas. His primary teachers have included Steve Menard, Hana Beloglavec, Larry Zalkind, and John Marcellus.
