kai-chun wong

An emerging conductor and violinist/violist, Kai-Chun Wong was the Conducting Assistant of the Rapides Symphony during season 2024-25, and is a First Prize Winner of the 2025 Los Angeles Conducting Workshop and Competition. He has also been selected as a conducting fellow at the Mostly Modern Festival. As an orchestral musician, Wong has performed across the southern United States. He served as principal second violin of the Longview (TX) Symphony, and currently collaborates regularly as a violinist with the Louisiana Philharmonic and as a violist with the Acadiana Symphony. A two-time participant in the Youth Music Culture Guangdong (CN), he performed under the baton of Michael Stern alongside Yo-Yo Ma, experiences that deepened his belief in music’s ability to connect communities and create meaningful impact. A native of Hong Kong, Wong holds a BA in Music from Hong Kong Baptist University and a MM in Orchestral Conducting from Louisiana State University, where he studied with Scott Terrell. He is grateful for the mentors who have shaped his artistic voice, including Damon Talley, Larry Rachleff, Donald Schleicher, Mark Laycock, Neil Thomson, Scott Weiss, Douglas Bostock, and Kevin Noe. Outside of music, Kai-Chun enjoys cooking and rock climbing, with an outdoor record of 5.11a in Hong Kong.
